A start at catching up. The beginning of homeschool.

When I decided to start a blog I was going to use it as a scrap book/journal of sorts. Well guess what? It hasn't worked out so well for me, so now I haven't kept up on pictures, keeping a journal, or the blog. So I will try to stick a few pics or two, or a hundred on here and a note or two and pretend I am all caught up. Here we go....
Jaron started school and guess what, we turned into one of those weird home school families. We have had a blast with it. We did our year theme on the beginnings of America. Yeah pretty thick stuff for such a little guy but even Emmitt and Eliza have picked stuff up from it. Emmitt knows about George Washington and that the Red Coats were the "bad guys". Emmit after putting on his red snow jacket,"Mommy this is my bad guy Jacket." Then I hear him tell Steve, "This is my bad guy jacket. George Washington gave it to me." Yeah he doesn't connect the dots but he is picking up way more than I expected. We have a group that follows the same adventure we are doing and that we would do a weekly class and field trips with. We would tailor the learning to our childrens individual interests. We started with Roanoke and are learning about some of the Founding Fathers presently.
For Colonial America we went to the L A Fair where they experienced activities they would have done back in the 1600-1700's. They had a good time.

These next two photos were taken when we did a chalk outline of the size of the Mayflower to give the kids an idea of how cramped they would have been on the ship.

Here we are at Riley's Farm in Oak Glen learning more about the colonial way of life.

Jaron churning butter. This would have been a daily chore for four or five year old. It would remain there job until a younger sibling was old enough to do it for them. The colonial kids make the kids in our society look like a bunch of chumps.

Weaving on the loom. This is a way many colonist would have made their own cloth.

Practicing writing with a quill pen.

Emmitt helping press cider. My friend Crystal was a big help with my kiddos during group activities even though she has like 100 of her own kids. Alright I think it is 8 but that is close enough for me.

Eliza making her own candle.

Mess Ups!

We bought a new camera recently. I wanted something small I could stick in my pocket. Lets face it on an outing with my kids I don't need something else to try to shuffle around. OK, I am getting to the point eventually here..... It has a panoramic option that we have shot some picks with. Can you find the mess ups in the two below photos we have shot with it? If you spot them they are pretty fun/creepy. They are not coming up well. They look even more distorted when posted on here.
Have Fun!

On the first one Steve has two mouths. On the second McKenzie has two faces.
